Cushions for Border Collie Rescue

A curious Collie checking what we'd brought
On Saturday, my mom and I went to deliver the 39 new cushions we'd made for Border Collie Rescue in Kalbaskraal.  When Doron and I were there in June to donate food, Karen spent some time showing us around the facility and introducing us to the dogs.
We got to see the barn where the Collies sleep together each night - during the day, they are free to run around the huge grounds.  Every Collie has their own cage with their name on it and, at bedtime, they all know exactly where to go.

Azzan :: At the farm

Today Azzan ventured a little further than the Atlantic Seaboard and went to visit friends on their farm in Malmesbury.  He even celebrated by going for a dip in their pond.

mmmm Smells good, when's lunch?

Azzan :: New K9 Gear

Project :: Fisantekraal Animal Welfare Update

Thanks to RJ45 Networking Solutions for their incredible donation of materials and manpower needed for the successful completion of our project at FAW.  And also to CEL Paving for their generous sponsorship of the paving bricks.

FAW operates from these containers on a Tuesday and Saturday morning, so when Peet arrived on the Wednesday morning, 26th June, he had three days to complete all the work.  He hired some local guys to help with the construction and together, they were able to have the whole job done for FAW's arrival at work on the Saturday morning.   Read more about this project here.

Adoption :: Rosemary - Lucky Lucy | FurKidz

My folks decided to adopt a rescue so we visited the FurKidz website which lists available dogs and cats from a number of rescue centres in your area.

If you're looking for a perfect match, visit their site - you can search what type of companion you are looking for, the region you're in and can also use the advanced filters for specific attributes such as breed, age, size, colour or gender.

Smiley - Swaziland Rescue Mission

We saw this call for help at the end of May and decided to donate towards this amazing rescue.
It reminded us so much of our experience of Azzan and this was just one way we could pay it forward.

Food Appeal :: Animal Welfare Helderberg

We received a plea for food from the Animal Welfare Helderberg on 03 Jun 2013, so went shopping and got a load of dog, puppy, cat and kitten food for them.

We are absolutely DESPERATE DESPERATE DESPERATE for dog and cat food. We have almost nothing left and our kennels are filled to capacity. If anyone can help us, no matter how small the donation, we will be so grateful. Food can be dropped off at the kennels in Gordon's Bay or at our shop at 42 Reitz Street in Somerset West. If anyone would like to make a donation our banking details are: Animal Welfare Helderberg, Standard Bank, Acc no 072286547, Branch Code 033012. Thank you xxx

Please consider dropping a bag or two of food off at your nearest shelter - they could really use your help.

Food for Border Collie Rescue

We bought a whole bunch of dry and wet food for Border Collie Rescue in Kalbaskraal, near Malmesbury, after they sent out a desperate plea.
Their food sponsor had withdrawn suddenly and they are now looking for a new sponsor.  Please spread the word.

BCR provides shelter for Border Collies where they are not restricted to kennels and have a large area to run in.  Here is an excerpt from their site that explains this philosophy:

Foods not to feed your dog

Here's a great article that appeared on NEWS24 today for all you dog lovers out there on what not to feed your best friend.
Feeding your dog 'human food' may be detrimental to its health. Here are some of the dangers for dogs that lurk in everyday food:

Project :: Border Collie Rescue (Fabric needed)

We are appealing for any fabric offcuts/used/seconds/anything really, because we are making cushions/mattresses to donate to Border Collie Rescue for their dog crates.  Even if it is small pieces that we can sew together to make big covers and/or make stuffed toys from.

Please ask around if anyone has anything they’d like to donate.  We'll also be needing inners or foam.  Anything would be a HUGE help!!
Please email me if you would like to donate to this worthy project, thanks.

Azzan's first hydrotherapy session

Azzan started his hydrotherapy treatment at Holistic Vet today.  He managed six 1-minute sessions with a break of 40 seconds in-between).  Good boy!

Azzan's orthotics

With Dr Megan Kelly at Holistic Vet with his new custom made orthotics.

First Cape Winter

Brrrr not sure he's used to this kind of cold!

Bandages off

Azzan's bandages came off today.  Now he's just waiting on his orthotics which will help stabilise the joints while he gains his muscle and strength back.

The wounds are healing nicely but need to be completely closed before he can wear his braces.

Dr Kelly suggested this honey, so Liam is applying it to the wounds to help them heal.
