Check up day

Azzan just back from the vet where Dr Gray found that one of the pins had come undone and was sticking out of his left leg, which he removed and applied fresh bandages.

Hello again

Riaan, also from our original group that traveled to Hippo Pools, seeing Azzan for the first time since his rescue.

Playing ball with Terri

Got it!
Give it back!

Nope :-)

Hello again

Maryke seeing Azzan again for the first time since Hippo Pools.

You can tell how hard it still is for him to try and sit normally.  He ends up having to sit 'side-saddle' with the bandages and splints.  Because of the injuries and near starvation, the muscles in his hind quarters are so weak that he struggles to control the sitting down movement and then struggles to get himself up again.

Aaaah stretch

Azzan walking on the beachfront

This is after just a week - the difference is unbelievable !

Some TLC

Azzan's elbows are so badly scarred from having to use them to move around.  Here Liam is applying cream to help soften them up.

Azzan playing like a puppy

Day 4 of Azzan at his new home in Cape Town, soaking up all the attention.

New booties

Don't you love my new booties?  Much more comfortable :-)

Change is needed

Liam had to upsize the usual poo bags for Azzan lol.

Brushing time

Doron giving Azzan a good brush.  Looks like he's loving it!

Azzan's first check up

Azzan leaving the vet after having a thorough check up and his splints and bandages changed - he is one very happy boy :-)

Settling in

Trying out Terri's bed for size........snug as a bug.

First walk on the beachfront

Azzan's first walk with Terri on Sea Point promenade.  A far cry from the sandy river banks of the Kunene.

First night home

First night at my new forever home and feeling pretty settled.

Already getting spoilt

Treats for everyone!

Meeting Liam's other rescue, Terri.

Table Mountain

Via :: Offroad Sheriffs

Almost home after 2500km's in three days.  Absolutely worth it though!

Crossing the border

Via :: Offroad Sheriffs
Azzan looking back at Namibia as we cross the border into South Africa.

Clearing Azzan at the border

Via :: Offroad Sheriffs

Clearing Azzan at the border was quick and painless :-) thanks to Dr Hartmann preparing his certificate and us doing our homework before leaving Cape Town.

For anyone wanting to move an animal across the border, all you need is an inter-territorial movement permit which acts as an import permit and a veterinary health certificate.

Keetmanshoop

Via :: Offroad Sheriffs

We over-nighted in Keetmanshoop on Saturday at a pet friendly spot.  After a long day on the road, we finally got to spend some quality time with Azzan.

On his way

Via :: Offroad Sheriffs

Saturday 14h00 - Met up with Esme and collected Azzan. Here he is with his nose stuck through between the chairs.

The open road

In Namibia :: Saturday morning - on the road from Noordoewer to meet Esme & Azzan in Mariental

Leaving Cape Town to fetch Azzan

It's a beautiful day in Cape Town - perfect for a road trip.

Azzan's goody bag

No rescue would be complete without a goody bag filled to the brim with treats and toys.  Just a taste of the life in store for him.

Rocco testing out Azzan's new bed

It's the day before we leave for Namibia to fetch Azzan and the excitement is mounting.  Tomorrow we drive up to just across the border and on Saturday we leave early from Noordoewer for Mariental to meet Esme.

This fantastic bed was donated to Azzan by ROGZ The World's Coolest Pet Gear!  They were also generous enough to supply him with a brand new harness and leash.  Thanks ROGZ, you guys rock!
